Catch A Mole - The Best And Fastest Way

If you have a mole problem, then you know that to catch a mole and end your problem is a tough task. This article will show you the best way to catch a mole and end your problem now and forever.

Step 1. Identify Where The Mole Is

To do this, stomp down the existing mounds and wait for the mole to repair the damage in the tunnel. Their calling card is, of course, a fresh mole hill, or an upward crack in the sod. You should be looking for spots where the mole has come up repeatedly, as moles have favorite runs to which they return almost on a daily basis.

Step 2. Use A Good Mole Trap

There are several mole trap makers out there, but I use the traps from Mole Pro exclusively. They are easy to use, safe, and very effective. The traps have several features that make them the perfect way to catch a mole. The first is that the can be activated moving in either direction.

It does not matter which way a mole enters the trap as either way will catch a mole and end your problem. You can get more than one trap for maximum coverage depending on the size of your lawn and the level of infestation. Moles tend to work alone, so you will be surprised how the activity will stop once you catch a mole.

Step 3. Pick The Right Spot

If you did the first step, you know where the mole is returning repeatedly; now it’s time to narrow it down. Moles tend have two kinds of tunnels: (a) “feeding tunnels” which they use to find worms which they eat, and (b) “main tunnels” which they use to get from one feeding area to the next. Main tunnels typically come up in a relatively straight line, one after the other. The ideal spot is along a house foundation or a driveway; this is where you will catch a mole.

Step 4. Set The Trap

Some people like to boil the traps and wear gloves while setting them to avoid human scent. I personally don’t think this is necessary, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. Most traps like the Victor and Nash traps rely on the mole pushing upward on the trigger. Another reason why I prefer the Mole Pro trap is because the trigger is right in the tunnel itself and the mole will push it out of the way in order to pass through.

I find this is a more effective way to trigger the trap and results in a better chance to catch a mole. The trigger should be set so the trap will spring with very little pressure, but this takes some practice. Make sure when you open the mole tunnel that you don’t open it too wide or else the mole will find it too easy to dig around the trap and then you will not catch a mole.

Step 5. Maintain The Area

Once you catch a mole, be on the lookout for further activity. Once you have had a mole in your yard, it is far more likely that you will have another. The key is to catch a mole before it establishes itself and the tunnel system. So, you should pick a mole trap that is well designed and durable – preferably made of galvanized steel.

Finally, you need to be patient if you don’t catch a mole right off the bat. It can take several attempts before you are successful, but if you follow the process above, you will get results. There is only so much that can be covered in an article such as this, so make sure the mole traps you choose come with a good set of instructions.

I prefer a video which clearly shows how to use the traps in different situations, how to set it, etc. The Mole Pro trap can be purchased with a set that includes a DVD which does a nice job of covering the key steps to catch a mole.
